Conference Support

In conjunction with academic Departments and the Graduate School, DuPRI supports PhD students to attend the Annual PAA meetings. Our goal is to ensure that any student who is on the PAA program has enough resources to fully fund their participation in PAA. In addition, students not on the program can receive partial funding for PAA.

Each year, DuPRI will announce a calculation of the minimum amount necessary (MAN) for a student to attend the PAA. This amount is calculated as the least expensive reasonable transport to the conference or nearby city, hotel accommodations for three nights (assuming a triple room), conference registration fees, and $50 per day for meals and incidental expenses. The 2013 Annual Meeting will be held April 11-13 at the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel. The MAN for the New Orleans meeting is $700. DuPRI will provide any amount up to the MAN that is not provided by the Graduate School and home department for students on the PAA Program; for students attending but not on the program DuPRI will provide any amount up to the 50% of the MAN that is not provided by the home department.

The following are conditions for DuPRI funding:

  1. If you qualify for Graduate School Travel Funding, you must apply to use this $500 of funding to attend PAA in order to qualify for DuPRI funding. Students who are on the conference program and who have passed qualifying exams qualify for Graduate School Funding. You must apply for Graduate School Funding prior to travel; your application must be accompanied by a brief letter of intent and must be signed by your Director of Graduate Studies.
  2. If you qualify for Departmental Funding you must apply to use this funding to attend PAA in order to qualify for DuPRI funding. All departments provide $250 in funding for students who: a. receive Graduate School Funding, and b. have not already received departmental funding earlier in the academic year. Departments vary on whether they support students who do not qualify for Graduate School Funding (specifically whether they will pay for students who have not passed qualifiers or who are not on the program). You can find the travel funding policies for Economics, Psychology, Public Policy and Sociology here.
  3. You must regularly attend the DuPRI weekly seminar series to qualify for DuPRI conference support.
