The NIH Regional Seminar is intended for those new to the grants process, including sponsored project officers and departmental administrators, investigators, faculty, graduate students, etc. Over the course of two days, it also provides an opportunity to those with more experience to obtain updates on grants policies and procedures. Approximately 600-800 attendees are expected, providing extended opportunities for sharing and learning from peers as well as NIH experts. REVES 25th Annual Meeting, May 27-29 at UT Austin

Réseau Espérance de Vie en Santé (REVES), the international network on health expectancies and the disablement process, invites you to submit abstracts for the network’s 25th meeting at the University of Texas at Austin, May 27, 2013 – May 29, 2013. The deadline for submitting abstracts is February 15, 2013.
REVES is an international organization that promotes the use of health expectancy as a key metric of population health. REVES members are actively engaged in the definition, measurement, and comparison of population health metrics locally and globally. The REVES network was originally formed in 1989 by the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM, Montpelier), the Social Affairs Council, Quebec, Canada, and the Center for Demographic Studies, Durham, North Carolina, United States. REVES now includes over 150 scientists and policy makers representing 30 countries worldwide as well as a wide range of scientific disciplines including demography, epidemiology, gerontology, sociology, psychology, public health, health economics, medicine, biology, and statistics. International Conference on Methods for Surveying and Enumerating Hard to Reach Populations

"H2R 2012" will be held Oct. 31 to Nov. 3 in New Orleans, LA. The conference will bring together survey methodologists, sociologists, statisticians, demographers, ethnographers, policy analysts and other professionals from around the world to present new and innovative concepts and techniques for surveying hard to reach populations. DuPRI faculty members M. Giovanna Merli and James Moody will both be presenting papers. The conference aims to address both the statistical and survey design aspects of including hard to reach groups. Researchers will report findings from censuses and surveys and other research related to the identification, definition, measurement, and methodologies for surveying and enumerating undercounted populations. The deadline for registration is Sept. 20.

33rd Annual Minority Health Conference: Registration now open

The UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health and the Minority Student Caucus invite you to attend the 33rd Annual Minority Health Conference, “Translational Research: The Road from Efficacy to Equity". The conference will be held on February 24, 2012 at the William and Ida Friday Center for Continuing Education. This year's keynote speakers include Ana Diez-Roux, an expert in epidemiology and neighborhood health effects, and Nina Wallerstein, an expert in community-based participatory research.

DuPRI Researchers, International Scholars Examine Health-Survival Paradox

Scholars from Denmark, Germany, and the United States presented research at a May 4, 2011 Duke University Population Research Institute (DuPRI) meeting on the paradox that males report better health than females but encounter higher mortality at all ages. The presentations were part of the First International Biodemography Network Meeting held at Duke’s Thomas Conference Center on May 3-4, 2011.

20th Bureau for Research and Economic Analysis of Development (BREAD) Conference

The Twentieth BREAD Conference on Development Economics will be held on 23-24 September, 2011, in Paris, France. It will be sponsored by Actors, Markets and Institutions in Development Countries (AMID) and the Center for Economic Policy and Research (CEPR). The deadline for submissions is 18:00 GMT on Friday June 17, 2011. Please email your submission to Nadine Clarke. Papers will be selected by the Scientific Committee.
